The village of Starý Šachov is located in the district of Děčín in the picturesque valley of the river Ploučnice. It is located on both banks of the river in the cadastral areas of Malý Šachov and Starý Šachov.
The first written mention of the village dates back to 1387. Currently, Starý Šachov has 217 permanent residents.
The tradition of the village is the long-standing activity of the football TJ Starý Šachov and the volunteer fire brigade.
The village is located in the protected landscape area of the České středohoří, to the south of the village lies the Kamenná hůra nature reserve with an area of 56.74 ha.
